    Illinois Soldiers join exercise Eager Lion in Jordan

    AMMAN, Jordan -- Approximately 40 Illinois National Guard Soldiers joined nearly 5,000 military personnel from the U.S. the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and 28 other partner nations for exercise Eager Lion 2022 at various locations throughout Jordan Sept. 7-12.

    "Our staff and our Jordanian counterparts make up the higher command (HICON) of the training audience," said Brig. Gen Justin Osberg, the Illinois National Guard Assistant Adjutant General-Army and the HICON Deputy Commander. "Together, we are using our expertise to rive the scenarios and ensure the exercise meets the training objectives. Ultimately this exercise will enhance our partnerships and our collective ability to seamlessly conduct simultaneous and varied military and humanitarian operations."

    Eager Lion is designed to exchange military expertise, improve interoperability among partner nations and enhance security and stability in the region. This year's even will focus on cyber threats, integrated air and missile defense and maritime and border security.

    Eager Lion demonstrates the U.S. Central Command's dedication to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and its regional partners combined efforts to sustain regional security and stability.

    "This exercise bonds our country's armed forces and highlights our mutual interest in the framework of counter terrorism and maintaining regional security," said U.S. Marine Corps Brig. Gen. Matthew Reid, Commanding General, Naval Amphibious Force, Task Force 51/5th Marine Expeditionary Brigade and Eager Lion 2022 Exercise Director. "Eager Lion also underscores Jordan's leadership in regional stability and security and highlights the commitment, expertise and the centers of excellence of the Jordanian Armed Forces."

    Approximately 1,800 U.S. servicemembers, 2,200 Jordanian Armed Forces and 800 coalition personnel from 28 partner nations are participating in the tenth iteration of Eager Lion.

    "Eager Lion is considered one of the most important and biggest exercise events in this region," said Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan Brig. Gen. Mohammed Smadi, Eager Lion 2022 HICON Director for Jordanian Forces. "I'd like to convey my great gratitude to all the participants in the exercise for their great effort and preparation for this exercise, whether form the Jordanian Forces or our friendly and brotherly countries."
