POWIDZ, Poland – The Combat Aviation Brigade, 1st Armored Division, assumed command of the aviation component of Atlantic Resolve at the 33rd Air Base, near Powidz, Poland, Sept. 12, 2022.
As the combat aviation brigade rotation, “Iron Eagles” provides air support for units forward deployed to Eastern Europe.
The Combat Aviation Brigade replaces the Air Cavalry Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, after a successful 10-month rotation.
“The uncasing of our colors here today signifies the beginning of a new and exciting mission together,” said U.S. Army Col. John A. Morris III, commander of the Combat Aviation Brigade. “It serves as a powerful reminder of our commitment to Poland, the greater European community and the NATO alliance. We are thrilled to be here and look forward to serving with you.”
The transfer of authority ceremony is a longstanding army tradition that signifies when a new unit takes over full responsibility for a mission.
The Combat Aviation Brigade, 1AD, is among other units assigned to the 1st Infantry Division, proudly working alongside NATO allies and regional security partners to provide combat-credible forces to V Corps, America’s forward-deployed corps in Europe.
