    101st Air Refueling Wing

“We are a lynch pin in our Joint Force. Whether that be working within the State with our Army National Guard partners or working nationally and internationally with our Air Force partners, each member here is a crucial cog in the machine that is the 101st.”

These were the motivating words of 101st Wing Commander Col. Ian Gillis during the 101st’s first all-call assembly since prior to the COVID-19 Pandemic. This was the time to get the entire base together so that Gillis could not only see all of the Maine Air National Guard members back together under one roof again, but also talk about what the future holds for the 101st.

“As many of you know, the KC-46 is the future of air refueling,” said Gillis. “The KC-135 will soldier on for many years to come and still be a crucial asset, but the KC-46 could bring new capabilities to this Wing and further our plans for what’s ahead.”

The 101st ARW is one of several bases being looked at to house the new KC-46, an upgrade from the current KC-135 model that we use today.

“Excellence, family and commitment,” Col. Gillis said. “These are our MAINEiac traditions, this is what makes us who we are. These are the very same attributes that set us apart and make us a world renowned organization. Every one of you here today has made sure of that. You all have a stake in this and your impact will show with the future of our organization. Thank you all for your service and please thank your families for their support too.”
