FORT BELVOIR, VA – Project Manager Soldier Lethality (PM SL) held an assumption of charter ceremony establishing the Product Manager Small Arms Fire Control (PdM SAFC), at Fort Belvoir, Va. on Aug. 12.
The ceremony marked the conclusion of the third phase of Program Executive Office (PEO) Soldier’s re-organization.
PdM SAFC is made up of programs that formerly belonged to the Project Manager Soldier Maneuver and Precision Targeting (PM SMPT) -- Family of Weapons Sights (FWS) - Individual, FWS-Sniper, FWS-Crew Served, Small Tactical Optical Rifle Mounted -- as well as one PM SL asset, Next Generation Squad Weapon - Fire Control.
Lt. Col. Trond Ruud was installed as PdM SAFC’s first product manager during the ceremony.
Col. Scott Madore, PM SL, passed the Army Acquisition Corps flag to LTC Ruud signifying the official transfer of responsibility. He also presented the new product manager with a copy of his charter.
Ruud previously served in PEO Soldier as Assistant Product Manager for Ground Soldier Systems. He also supported the PEO as its Department of the Army Systems Coordinator (DASC) for SL in 2018.
“These broad experiences combined with his most recent one under a Training with Industry at Sig Sauer make him uniquely qualified to lead our Small Arms Fire Control organization,” Col. Madore said.
Despite the restructuring, the respective missions of these programs will not change, he said.
“Our expectation is that with this organizational realignment of product lines, those teams will continue the legacy of their high performing organizations. These teams deliver thermal and laser capabilities to joint warfighters. We’ll continue enabling our warfighters with significant overmatch capabilities while fielding the FWS, STORM, and Next Generation Squad Weapon-Fire Control systems.”
After assuming the charter and responsibility for PdM SAFC, Ruud expressed his appreciation for being given the chance to again lead a team within PEO Soldier.
“It is without question a distinct honor and privilege for me to be afforded the opportunity to take command of PdM SAFC. I’m excited for this opportunity and look forward to the challenge. The most rewarding time I’ve had in the Army has been working for PEO Soldier. I’m very fortunate and grateful to write another chapter in my career while under the PEO Soldier umbrella,” he said.
