FORT WORTH, Texas (Sept. 23, 2022) – In July 2022, the Navy Exchange Service Command (NEXCOM) recognized Naval Air Station (NAS) Joint Reserve Base (JRB) Fort Worth’s Navy Lodge Manager, Secelia Donovan, as Navy Lodge Manager of the Year for 2021, for her outstanding contributions to the organization.

The Navy Lodge Program Regional Vice President, Karla Hardy, said the criteria for consideration includes the support given to the Navy Lodge Program, military installation and community; marketing done to promote the Navy Lodge Program; social media presence, guest’s comments/scores, associate satisfaction and financial performance.

“Navy Lodge Fort Worth had an impressive record breaking year, delivering the highest annual occupancy in the properties’ 18-year history,” said Hardy. “Donovan surpassed all expectations in 2021 despite the pandemic, hurricane evacuations and ice storms. She demonstrated her devotion in showing the value of the Navy Lodge to support the installation and mission.”

Donovan supported the Navy Lodge Program by serving on the training committee where she was instrumental in the development of training materials to benefit current and future Navy Lodge associates, said Hardy. Donovan’s community service contributions included the Fill the Truck event, where Navy Lodge management and associates went “above and beyond” to donate clothing, blankets and non-perishable food to support Hurricane Ida evacuees, and the base’s Trunk-or-Treat event, providing Halloween goodies to military children. She also rallied around the Trash Bash program, cleaning up local waterways around the installation.

Hardy said Donovan led her team with respect and encouragement, which resulted in a very high performing team. This manager of the year award recognizes Donovan’s leadership and dedication to hospitality.

Donovan found out about winning this award during the middle of a virtual training class.

“Typically, we do Spring training in person, but we have not had that since COVID-19, so this year was virtual”, said Donovan. “In the middle of class, they cut the screen to a Microsoft Team meeting, and the next thing I know, they are naming me the Manager of the Year.”

Donovan said serving service members and their families means more than getting recognition. “I am not good at receiving recognition, I was excited but I am here for the service members and that is reward enough.”
