In late August, Soldiers assigned to the 249th Engineer Battalion - Prime Power conducted more than 50 facility power assessments across the Navajo Tribal Utility Authority area of operations. The prime power experts split into two teams and covered nearly 22,000 square miles over five days to help identify ways to improve the power reliability and sustainability in Navajo Nation.

“The first thing we’re looking at is safety, because the health and safety of anyone who’s working in these buildings or around this stuff is the most important thing,” said Staff Sgt. Jason Allen, prime power specialist, A Co., 249th Engineer Battalion, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

“We hope this visit is only the start to a long relationship and we can help with some ways to upgrade and repair some of the electrical infrastructure,” Allen said. “I’d love to come out here again and do some work.”
