Airmen assigned to the 776th Expeditionary Air Base Squadron welcomed the first Army and Air Force Exchange Service facility at Chabelley Airfield, Djibouti, Sept. 14, 2022.
The new exchange offers Airmen a variety of items that were previously inaccessible such as personal hygiene products, laundry detergent, batteries, workout supplements, energy drinks, snacks and more.
“The challenges of receiving supplies are ever changing for roughly the 135 soldiers who rotate through Chabelley,” said U.S. Air Force Master Sgt Michael Joyner, 776th EABS services superintendent. “The new AAFES facility will improve quality of life and offer peace of mind by knowing that high demand items are readily available every day. This is the driving reason for implementing a AAFES operation which is open throughout the entire day to capture all shifts.”
This upgrade marks a milestone for camp morale, having the ability to instantly purchase basic supplies or snacks is a huge standard of life improvement for the deployed Airmen.
“The establishment of the Chabelley Exchange will increase the quality of life for the joint team,” said U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Anders Hedberg, 776th EABS commander. “Having an AAFES in an austere location is a big team win because it enhances Soldiers, Airmen, and contractors that makeup Team Chabelley.”
