MARINE CORPS BASE QUANTICO, Va. -- The Marine Corps University hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony, announcing the launch of the new Wargaming Cloud at Warner Hall at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia, Sept. 23, 2022.
The Wargaming Cloud is a space where faculty and students compete head-to-head across a wide range of historical and modern scenarios. Faculty and students now have access to a large scale of commercial and government wargaming tools from their personal devices.
“The Wargaming cloud capability is allowing us to be able to get students and faculty to be able to play games from their personal devices from home,” said Timothy Barrick, Wargaming Director, Marine Corps University. “In the past we didn’t have this ability. If we wanted them to play a computer game at home, we would’ve had to make them purchase the game and install it on their computer.”
Wargaming is an interactive and immersive learning environment that challenges participants to adapt to different battlespace scenarios. Players consider objectives, risks, sequencing of actions, and force employment in order to defeat an active simulated enemy.
“Wargaming revolves around making decisions in a military tactical setting. We want that decision making in a competitive environment where it’s force on force, against a thinking enemy,” said Barrick.
After assessing the launch of the Wargaming Cloud, the Marine Corps will consider expanding the capability to the Fleet Marine Force for continuing education.
