CONTINGENCY OPERATING BASE BASRA, Iraq — The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Admiral Mike Mullen, took the opportunity of his visit to Contingency Operating Base Basra, Iraq, to visit with the local military and civilian figures.
Gauging the current operating environment, Mullen sat with Imam Sayyed Moosawi, Maj. Gen. Abdul Aziz, commander of the 14th Iraqi Army Division; and Maj. Gen. Rick Nash, commander of Multi-National Division South and 34th Infantry Division, Dec. 18.
During the meeting, the leaders discussed the importance of security and stability in Basrah, especially in preparation for the upcoming elections.
"With security, comes the opportunity for economic prosperity for Basrah and all of southern Iraq," said Nash, "and we are optimistic and hopeful that the people of Basrah will see the results from our friendship and partnership."
