ROYAL AIR FORCE BOULMER, England -- U.S. Air Force Tactical Air Control Party specialists assigned to the 2d Air Support Operations Squadron out of Vilseck, Germany, along with United Kingdom Royal Air Force personnel supported a function of exercise Cobra Warrior 22, Sept. 16-23, 2022, near RAF Boulmer, which is situated near Alnwick, the county town of Northumberland close to the Scottish border.
Cobra Warrior is a U.K. led effort focusing on operational to tactical high-end spectrum warfighting in a contested, degraded, limited operating environment. The exercise is a capstone tactical training event to conclude the training of the UK’s Typhoon Qualified Weapons Instructor (QWI) course.
The TACPs from the 2d ASOS primary task and purpose during CW22 is to provide terrestrial acquisition in support of strike packages while integrating with RAF Command and Control (C2) agencies.
“Clearly in this environment there is a limit,” said 2d ASOS Team Leader, Precision Strike Section. “But the benefit to this training is the implied realism within the area due to these limitations. My team are refining their techniques and performing and using the tools available to make sure we can complete the mission which is vital in general warfighting.”
This exercise enhances the tactical and operational readiness necessary to respond to any potential challenge in the region.
The U.S. continues to demonstrate its commitment to the collective security of our NATO Allies and Partners in Europe, and this training is intended to bolster interoperability and build upon NATO’s shared commitment to regional security.
