FORT BRAGG, N.C. - Having a sense of community is such an integral aspect of having a high quality of life. These connections help us to have a sense of belonging, give us support and safety and help us grow in our every day lives.
Throughout my career, the military community has meant so much to both my family and me. As the garrison commander, it is my desire that everyone on Fort Bragg feels the same sense of community and belonging that I have been blessed to enjoy.
We want Fort Bragg to be the installation of choice for our service members and their families. We are working hard to build programs that create lasting relationships with the surrounding communities. We are taking time to listen to feedback, and we are making changes that will improve the quality of life for those who serve.
There are numerous opportunities here at Fort Bragg to build lasting connections, contribute to the community and enjoy fun-filled events. From the Fort Bragg 10 Miler, to Block Parties, to programs and events. I encourage all of you to take advantage of the multitude of programs and services designed to foster a culture of community and camaraderie.
Below is a list of upcoming events and programs:
• Remember My Name Vigil Oct. 6 at Festival Park in support of Domestic Violence Awareness month.
• The Directorate of Emergency Services is hosting several events the week of Oct. 11 in support of Fire Prevention Week.
• The Religious Support Office in conjunction with Womack is hosting the 20th Annual Walk to Remember Oct. 14, which brings awareness to pregnancy and infant loss.
• Now through Oct. 15, the Religious Support Office is collaborating with the commissaries for the Build-A-Meal Campaign to provide Thanksgiving meals for Soldiers and Families. Shoppers can purchase pre-made nonperishable bags or $20 gift cards for a Soldier’s choice of meats. All donations will go directly to our Families right here at Fort Bragg.
• Womack Army Medical Center in partnership with other organizations is hosting a Military Retiree Appreciation Day Oct. 22.
• For example, the Directorate of Family, Morale, Welfare and Recreation is kicking off our very first Block Party Oct. 22 at Linden Oaks.
• Registration is now open to participate in the Fort Bragg 10 Miler on Nov. 5.
• Department of Defense recently announced they are working to improve the economic security and stability of the military community with a 3-5 percent decrease in pricing at the commissaries on most grocery items.
• Army Community Service offers free classes that cover the range of finances, family relationships, anger management, victim resources, employment readiness and more. This month ACS is partnering with the City of Fayetteville for the inaugural Field of Shoes.
• Operation Ride Home is accepting applications. This program offers travel assistance up to $500 per airfare ticket and $125 for vehicle travel for active-duty service members E5 and below so that they can travel home for the holidays.
We care about our community and we are working each day to make this the best place to live, whether you and your family live on or off post, we will continue to build our relationships and partnerships to make Fort Bragg the military installation of choice.
