For our Fallen Warrior commemoration this week, we remember Staff Sgt. Michael Conner, 6994th Security Squadron morse systems operator.

Native to Rockwood, Tennessee, Conner enlisted in the Air Force in 1966 and completed technical training at Keesler Air Force Base, Mississippi.

On April 22, 1970, Conner was assigned to the EC-47 Skytrain.
During a combat flight mission over Thua Thien Province, South Vietnam, Conner’s aircraft was hit by anti-aircraft fire. Both engines were damaged and one was inoperable the crew was forced to crash land.

Conner and one of the aircraft’s pilots were the only crew members who died during the crash.

For his bravery and sacrifice, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal and the Purple Heart in May 1973. Conner Manor, located at Keesler Air Force Base, is dedicated in his honor.

Editor's note: The Fallen Warrior series highlights Fallen Warriors who exemplify our core values and paid the ultimate sacrifice. Take a moment to honor this week’s hero.
