SPLIT, Croatia (Sept. 10, 2022) Sailors assigned to the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Truxtun (DDG 103) cleaned and beautified the grounds of the Miljenko i Dobrila orphanage during a community relations event in Split, Croatia, Sept. 10, 2022.
While raking, mowing, trimming, weeding, and gardening, the Sailors swapped stories with the children and staff at the Miljenko i Dobrila orphanage.
“I got to spend my time doing something that benefits others,” said Fire Controllman 3rd Class Christopher Floyd.
In the Miljenko i Dobrila orphanage’s near-century of history, this was the first time the orphanage had welcomed volunteers from the U.S. Navy. This effort to support the orphaned children in Kastel Luksic inspired Truxtun Sailors and many expressed hopes of participating in community relation events in future port visits.
“This event may seem small to some, but it’s the little acts of kindness from one country to another that will keep us united,” said Floyd.
