FORT GEORGE G. MEADE, Md. – Soldiers and Civilians of the 780th Military Intelligence (MI) Brigade (Cyber) were on hand to witness the reflagging of E Company (Empire), 782d MI Battalion (Cyber), to F Company (Fury), 781st MI Battalion (Cyber), October 4, at the DeKalb Army Reserve Center.
The event was hosted by the 781st MI Battalion (Vanguard) and featured the historical E Company, and newly designated F Company commander and first sergeant, Capt. Lexie Johnson and 1st Sgt. Brian Fife, and the guidon bearer, Spc. Jacob Simon.
According to the narrator, 2nd. Lt. Kathleen Edwards, the ceremony signifies the completion of its mission under the 782d Military Intelligence Battalion (Cyber).
“Echo Company will be consigned to history as it is reflagged Foxtrot Company, Headquarters, 781st Military Intelligence Battalion. Foxtrot Company will be an essential part of the Army’s premier cyber force,” said Edwards
In his remarks, Lt. Col. Donald Sedivy, the commander of the 781st MI Battalion, and host for the reflagging ceremony, welcomed the Empire back to the Vanguard.
“To the members of Foxtrot Company, I am humbled and honored to have you rejoin the Vanguards. I look forward to serving with you,” said Sedivy. “Your reputation as a highly skilled and disciplined unit precedes you and I look forward to seeing what you will achieve going forward doing things… When Others Cannot (the battalion’s motto) – Everywhere and Always…In the Fight! (the brigade motto) – Conquer and Exploit.”
Unit History
The 782d Military Intelligence Battalion (Cyber) activated on June 7, 2013, and executed its first cyber mission in the fall of 2013. Today, the 782d MI Battalion (Cyber) works closely with the Army’s Joint Force Headquarters to provide ready teams, Army infrastructure, and Army capabilities to joint teams to enable cyber effects in support of Combatant Commander requirements.
The 782d MI Battalion (Cyber) consists of the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, Alpha Company, Bravo Company, Charlie Company, Delta Company, and Detachments in Texas and Hawaii.
On October 4, 2022, Echo Company, 782d MI Battalion (Cyber), was reflagged under the 781st MI Battalion (Cyber) as the battalion’s Foxtrot Company. Today, the 781st MI Battalion consists of the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, Alpha Company, Bravo Company, Charlie Company, Delta Company, Echo Company, Foxtrot Company, and the Cyber Solutions Development detachment all located at Fort George G. Meade, Maryland.
Over the years, the 781st Military Intelligence Battalion’s mission has increased in scope, scale, and Complexity. The unit is known among Army Cyber Command, U.S. Cyber Command, and Senior Army Leaders as a world class Cyberspace Operations Force capable of providing a ready force, developing capabilities required to meet expanding requirements, and delivering effects at the time and place of the Operational Commanders’ choosing.
