WASHINGTON – Renovations are complete at Comfort Hall on Naval Support Activity (NSA) Bethesda and leaders from Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC) Washington joined leaders from NSA Bethesda and Naval District Washington (NDW) to mark the significant quality-of-life improvement milestone at ceremony held Oct. 4.

In March 2022, NAVFAC Washington awarded a $2.7 million contract to renovate the spaces in Comfort Hall, Building 60, on NSA Bethesda. The renovation was a comprehensive refresh of the living spaces that included new paint, flooring and carpet, trim, bathroom finishes and fixtures, and window treatments. The work also included repairs to existing bathroom caulking and sealing, as well as new appliances and fixtures for the kitchens. Electrical upgrades were made to provide dedicated electrical circuits for safe, reliable power for a microwave oven and refrigerator in each room.

“There was just two percent cost growth on this project and zero schedule growth, which in the world of construction is a very rare statistic,” said Cmdr. Rick Buechel, NSA Bethesda public works officer. “I appreciate the patience from our customers and all of the tenant commands who have their soldiers and sailors living here. We’ve given Comfort Hall a polish so all service members have a space that is appropriate and livable for them moving forward.”

The Commanding Officer of NAVFAC Washington and Regional Engineer, Captain Eric Hawn was part of the event and noted that “This Bethesda team provides a strong example of the technical and acquisition capabilities that NAVFAC delivers in support of critical Department of Defense missions and the quality of life of our service men and women each and every day.”

The renovation work was completed in August as anticipated. NAVFAC is dedicated to meeting the United States Navy’s demand for a persistent and agile shore enterprise that provides mission capability to the Fleets, supported commands, and customers.
