    NAVFAC Southeast awards contract for renovations to Navy Aviation Survival Training Center at NAS Jacksonville

    Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command Southeast

    Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC) Southeast awarded a $14 million firm-fixed-price task order, Sept. 19, to Walga Ross Group 3 Joint Venture, from Joplin, Missouri, under a multiple award construction contract to provide renovations to the Aviation Survival Training Center (ASTC) at Naval Air Station (NAS) Jacksonville.

    ASTC Jacksonville provides aviation survival and safety training for Navy and Marine Corps Aviation and supports all Department of Defense (DoD) activities. Training includes classroom or squadron lectures, simulator devices and a curriculum that emphasizes hands-on exposure to survival skills.

    “The mission of ASTC Jacksonville is to provide safe, effective, and relevant aviation survival and human performance training to the fleet and joint warfighters as mandated by the Chief of Naval Operations,” said Cmdr. Heath Clifford, Director for the Aviation Survival Training Center. “Antiquated training facilities across the fleet can jeopardize fleet readiness, this sustainment, restoration, and modernization project for ASTC Jacksonville will ensure the uninterrupted continuation of our mission to conduct this high-fidelity aviation survival training in a state of the art facility for years to come.”

    The work to be performed provides for interior renovations/reconfiguration of office space, classroom space, locker room, repair of spalling exterior concrete foundation wall, cleaning and painting of exterior concrete foundation wall and precast panels, removal of roof top solar water heating system, replacement of roofing/insulation system, extension of existing fire protection system, installation of a mass notification system, replacement of mechanical equipment, replacement of lighting fixtures, installation/extension of communication system,

    The contract also provides for renovation of the interior training pool, and installation of a dehumidification unit to maintain pool water temperature, pool room temperature, and control humidity levels in the pool area for students and staff.

    Work will be performed in Jacksonville, Florida and is expected to be completed by Nov. 2023.
