MARINE CORPS BASE QUANTICO, Va. – Marine Corps Base Quantico Commanding Officer Col. Michael Brooks, along with other military and government officials, conducted an annual brief to the community at The Clubs of Quantico and Crossroads Event Center on Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia, Oct. 6, 2022.
The annual event ensures that key community partners are well informed about the base’s economic impact to the community, progress of construction projects happening on base, and the mission of Marine Corps Base Quantico and the tenant activities it supports.
Representatives from Stafford County, Prince William County, Fauquier County, the Town of Quantico, and the Town of Dumfries, Virginia, received briefs from base leaders such as Colonel Michael Brooks, base commander, Lieutenant Colonel David Rainey, Security Battalion Commanding Officer, and Lieutenant Colonel Patrick Fahey, Marine Corps Air Facility Quantico Commanding Officer.
“We want to make sure that the community understands that we're trying to work with them and be a good neighbors,” said John Kiersma, assistant chief of staff, G-7 performance and external affairs, MCB Quantico. “With our Marines living out in the community and our civilian Marines working out and living out in the community, we have to make sure we foster that relationship.”
By fostering community partnerships, the Marine Corps is able to secure services and contracts faster that are more cost effective. Additionally, this affords the community more job and contract opportunities that stimulate the economy. The event included discussions on the financial impact of Marine Corps Base Quantico on the local area, upcoming construction projects on the base, services that the base provides, and goals for future community outreach and operations.
“As long as we are transparent and continue to be partners- it’s win-win,” said Col. Michael Brooks, base commander, “but it takes clear communication.”
