Ana María Bravo Rizo is a procurement technician for Naval Station (NAVSTA) Rota, Spain Housing Department, a position she’s held for the last 16 years before retiring this month.
Her duties include preparing and documenting all purchases – whether by contract or government credit card – for the department. She states her favorite thing about procurement is, “to contact sellers/vendors to get different offers with reasonable prices.”
Bravo Rizo, originally from Rota, Spain, began working on the installation at the age of 18. Over the years, she has worked for the supply department, AFN Rota, and housing.
“The best thing is the feeling of being loved by all my coworkers in all the departments that I have been,” said Bravo Rizo. “It has been like being part of a big family.”
The importance of family and friends – whether personal or at work – is evident even when asked to describe what she enjoys doing in her free time.
“My hobbies are walking on the beach in the morning, go to the gym, I like to play cards with my friends, watch the TV/movies, and spend time with my family and friends.”
As Bravo Rizo retires after 40 years of working on NAVSTA Rota, she reflects on her time here and the happiness she found in her work, the base, and with her Spanish and American coworkers.
“Now it is time to be with my family. I will remember all the good moments that I spent on base with my co-workers and I hope to see all of them around to have a beer or a glass of wine.”
