Continuing Promise 2022 Leaders Complete Pre-Deployment Site Survey

Senior leaders of U.S Naval Forces Southern Command/ U.S. 4th Fleet and Amphibious Squadron (PHIBRON) 4 completed a pre-deployment site survey trip to Guatemala, Honduras, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, and Haiti from August 11-23 ahead of Continuing Promise 2022 (CP-22).

In preparation for the USNS Comfort's (T-AH 20) deployment in support of CP-22 this fall, the mission delegation spoke with their Latin American partners and U.S. embassy leadership and conducted site visits in each country.
"The senior leader visit energized our final planning for CP-22," said Capt. Carmichael, PHIBRON 4 commodore and mission commander for CP-22. "The opportunity to inspect the locations and interact with our foreign partners will better prepare the Comfort ahead of its arrival. I am excited about the mission, which will demonstrate our continued commitment to the people of the Caribbean, Central, and South Americas."

CP-22 will provide care to local communities, hold subject matter expert exchanges, and conduct exercises to strengthen the U.S.-Latin American partnership. The mission will increase the region's medical readiness and enhance its combined capabilities to respond to public health disasters and humanitarian crises.

"It was incredibly valuable to visit our partners and see the locations where we will be working together," said Capt. Elliot, USNS Comfort medical treatment facility CO. "I couldn't be more excited to lead the Comfort and provide support to this mission. Opportunities like Continuing Promise have motivated me to stay in the Navy as we help thousands of people, increase our shared knowledge, and continue to strengthen our partnerships in the region."

Since 2007, Continuing Promise medical personnel have treated more than 582,000 people, including more than 7,000 surgeries. CP-22 is part of U.S. Southern Command's Enduring Promise initiative and reflects the United States' commitment to friendship, partnership, and solidarity with the Americas.
