U.S Space Force Chief of Space Operations Gen. John Raymond visited Kirtland AFB, Oct. 20, during an all-call where he addressed the Guardians and Airmen who directly work with the Space Force.
During his visit, Raymond supplied insight on the status of space operations throughout the Space Force and how the agencies at Kirtland help promote the mission.
“We are looking to diversify our space capabilities,” said Raymond. “and shift them to be more defendable. The Space Rapid Capabilities Office, [Defense Threat Reduction Agency] or AFRL, those 3 organizations are critical to this step. Getting the architecture to be resilient so we can operate the domain that we find ourselves today, so that we can compete and deter conflict. If you can deny the benefit of attack from an adversary, then we can amplify that deterrence messaging.”
Throughout his all-call, Gen. Raymond went over key points within the Force such as the National Defense Strategy, integrating space with theater operations and functions of independent services.
“There were 6 important things an independent service needed to do and it was our focus as the Space Force to get started,” said Raymond. “One of the key functions is developing people. A lot of the work we have been doing [internally] was how to manage our human capital. With that we published the Guardian Ideal which is a forward leaning strategy that highlights how we might leverage our small size and do things differently when it comes time to do big human capital management.”
Amongst the six important functions were:
Develop People
Submit a Budget
Publish a Doctrine
Design the Force
Build Readiness
Present the Force
Raymond has visited bases such as Los Angeles AFB, Vandenberg AFB, Buckley AFB, Peterson AFB, Schreiber AFB and Patrick AFB. These visits have given the Chief of Space Operations an opportunity to hear about the various mission sets of each base while also providing candid feedback of the future of the space force. The Guardians at these bases were also given the opportunity to ask questions pertaining to the branch and beyond.
Raymond concludes each all-call by showing his appreciation for the Guardians he serves alongside.
“The work you all have done, either as Guardians or as Airmen or as inter-service transfers, has been remarkable,” said Raymond. “You have helped continue to operate the capabilities that we have, think differently and develop new capabilities. I cannot be more proud of you. It has been the highlight of my career to serve by your side.”
