CAMP HUMPHREYS, Republic of Korea – United States Army Garrison Humphreys’ commander, Col. Seth Graves, and Command Sgt. Major Benjamin Lemon, senior enlisted advisor, ignited Humphreys’ Fire Prevention Week with a proclamation signing, Sept. 29 at the installation’s Fire Safety Training Center.

The theme for the 2022 Fire Prevention Week is “Fire Won’t Wait, Plan your Escape.” Humphreys Fire Department conducted fire-safety training around the garrison from Oct. 7-14.

Ricardo Bush, the USAG Humphreys Assistant Chief of Fire Prevention, expressed the importance of fire safety year-round, not just during Fire Prevention Week.

“We want to increase awareness for fire safety, especially for the elementary kids,” said Bush.

The USAG Humphreys’ fire team spent the week raising awareness at the schools, commissary, Post Exchange, and base housing to reach more school-aged children on the installation. This year’s campaign featured a fire trailer, videos to watch, safety tips, and a question-and-answer session.

“Children move around a lot and they might not necessarily think of what their safe exit is, and students really get excited about this event every year,” said Melissa Sour, USAG Humphreys Central Elementary School third grade teacher. “Fire Prevention Week is a great way for students to meet first responders and get hands-on fire safety experience.”

The week reiterated themes including the urgency of reviewing personal safety plans and ensuring a plan of action and an emergency kit prepared in the event of an emergency.

If you need to contact emergency services, call 911 on base or 119 off base.
