GRAFENWOEHR, Germany – As part of a special program to naturalize active duty military members and their families, U.S. Army Garrison Bavaria hosted a naturalization ceremony at the Tower Barracks Conference Center, Sept. 28.

During the ceremony, 21 new citizens, naturalizing from 15 different countries were administered the Oath of Allegiance.

The citizens naturalized at the ceremony originally come from Benin, Cameroon, China, Cote D'Ivoire, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Germany, Ghana, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nepal, Nicaragua, and South Korea.

“You have chosen the United States of America as your country,” said Command Sgt. Maj. Sebastian Camacho, USAG Bavaria. “The fact that you made the choice to do this on top of serving in the Armed Forces for a county that wasn’t your own until today makes it even more awe inspiring in my opinion--thank you for making these choices.”

These newly naturalized community members traveled to the ceremony from multiple U.S. Army garrisons across Germany, including the areas of Grafenwoehr, Vilseck, Hohenfels, Ansbach, Sembach, and Kaiserslautern.

Following the national anthem, the Oath of Allegiance was virtually conducted by a representative with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.

Due to COVID-19 travel restrictions, USAG Bavaria and USCIS work in tandem to successfully host these hybrid ceremonies. Since the program started in July 2021, eight hybrid ceremonies have been conducted at USAG Bavaria – totaling 200 naturalizations to date.
