2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division

JBLM, Washington – The 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team ‘Lancer Brigade’, 7th Infantry Division marked the start of a deployment to the Republic of Korea with a colors casing ceremony at Watkins Field on October 13, 2022.

The casing of the colors is a traditional ceremony held by the United States Army.

From the earliest of times, Warriors used a banner or other symbols to identify specific units, and to serve as a rallying point for troops. Today, the Colors, with battle streamers attached, join their unit in formations during ceremonies to signify their presence during past battles.
This ceremony symbolizes the unit's movement of operations from its home station to the U.S. Forces Korea area of operations to become its next Korea Rotational Force.

Rotational units enhance the alliance’s ability to deter external threats to the Republic of Korea’s
sovereignty, and introduces U.S. service members to the operating environment while expanding and enhancing the partnership between the U.S. and Republic of Korea. This deployment will conclude with the redeployment of the U.S.-based forces and equipment.

“The Lancer Brigade is proud to be selected as the first Stryker Brigade Combat Team to deploy to the Republic of Korea as the Korea Rotational Force. We are purposefully built to rapidly deploy, then to fight and win in key and restrictive terrain alongside our allies, and the Republic of Korea fits that description,” said Col. Chad Roehrman, the 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team commander.

Several thousand Soldiers from the ‘Lancer Brigade’ and subordinate units will deploy to South Korea.

The 2SBCT commander closed his remarks by expressing his gratitude and pride for the Soldiers of 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team.

“I am extremely proud of this Lancer ‘Team of Teams’ for all that we have already accomplished and more importantly what we will accomplish on this mission. This is a unique deployment opportunity for all of us and we will write the next chapter of this Brigade’s storied history through our actions as we train with our allies and strengthen our alliance.”
