The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Diligence returned to their homeport in Pensacola, Florida, Sept. 25, 2022, after a 27-day South Florida Straits patrol.
During the patrol, Diligence’s crew performed migrant interdiction operations in support of Operation Vigilant Sentry under the Seventh Coast Guard District and Homeland Security Task Force – Southeast. The crew also participated in an interagency effort to detect and deter vessels engaged in illegal maritime migration. Partnering with 16 other Coast Guard units, multiple Coast Guard aircraft, and fellow U.S. Department of Homeland Security agencies including Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations, Diligence interdicted, cared for and supported the repatriation of 774 migrants who departed from Cuba and Haiti.
“Throughout the deployment, Diligence’s crew exemplified the Coast Guard’s core values of honor, respect, and devotion to duty," said Cmdr. Jared Trusz, Diligence's commanding officer. "In response to a challenging mission, we bolstered our national security through robust interdictions, deterred illegal migration through rapid repatriation, and advanced democracy through humanitarian care and preserving the safety of life at-sea.”
Diligence is a 210-foot medium endurance cutter homeported in Pensacola with 78 crewmembers. The cutter’s primary missions are counter drug operations, migrant interdiction, enforcing federal fishery laws and search and rescue in support of Coast Guard operations throughout the Western Hemisphere.
