LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Air National Guard’s 155th Air Refueling Wing hosted an open hangar recruiting event at the Nebraska Air National Guard Base on Oct. 19, 2022.
Located at the fuel cell barn, the wing saw 250+ students from 31 local high schools along with nine colleges/universities, two civilian employers and the Nebraska Air National Guard showcasing the 45 jobs they had to offer.
Some of the main attractions included a tour of the KC-135R Stratotanker, the explosive ordinance disposal team and their robot, the fire department, medical and communications.
Master Sgt. Kyle Eddy, 155th ARW recruiting and retention senior enlisted leader, talked about some of the feedback he got and the overall turnout.
“I thought it was incredibly successful and it exceeded my expectations. The students were engaged and the wing table displays were captivating,” Eddy said. “Students and parents were surprised about the many things we do and accomplish out here, so it was eye opening for many.”
Connecting to the local community allows for the 155th ARW to show what they all do for the state of Nebraska and how they add to the success.
“Our community relationship and the support of local businesses that employ our Nebraska National Guardsmen is vital to our success, so putting them all in one place really facilities that connectivity and understanding,” said Col John Williams, commander, 155th ARW.
Williams explained how the recruiting event was not only beneficial for the Guard, but for all those attended.
“It gave potential members an opportunity to learn about continuing their education, the financial benefits of the National Guard, and opportunities for employment in the local area,” Williams said. “We talk about these connections all the time, but I’m very excited to have hosted this event and bring everyone together.”
