FORT HOOD, TX – Nine Soldiers assigned to the 369th Sustainment Brigade provide readiness support to deploying Soldiers in North Ft. Hood, Texas, during the brigade’s premobilization training as part of a white cell.
A white cell provides a host of administrative support that allows the brigade to focus on training for movement to theater. Most of the white cell team arrived in North Ft. Hood the week of Sept. 12 to prepare for the arrival of the brigade.
“Our main responsibility is making sure that everyone in the 369th SB is deployment ready,” said U.S. Army 1st Lt. Elvis Garcia, officer-in-charge of the white cell. “Whether that pertains to securing buildings for classes or transportation for appointments or preparing barracks for the Soldiers’ arrival, it is our job to ensure that efforts like these are completed.”
Soldiers assigned to this white cell will return to the 369th SB’s rear detachment in New York state then return to Ft. Hood when the brigade returns for demobilization, said Staff Sgt. Kimani George, Headquarters and Headquarters Company 369th SB supply non-commissioned officer.
George said that several Soldiers in this white cell, including himself, will perform their duties for the approximately 100 Soldiers in the rear detachment.
“Our mission is to make sure these Soldiers accomplish what they need to,” Garcia said. “A big part of my role here is ensuring that the battalion and brigade command teams have a vehicle ready to go whenever they need.”
Garcia said that Staff Sgt. Chanelle Agosto, who functions as both the Readiness NCO and NCO in-charge of this white cell, has played a pivotal role in ensuring that these logistical readiness operations keep moving forward.
Agosto said that despite complications and things not always going according to plan, the white cell got creative when issues with building bookings arose or vehicles broke down. She said that in the case of a broken-down transport vehicle, a rental vehicle was deployed as a substitute.”
“Overall, it’s exciting to be a part of the big picture,” Agosto said. “And in the smaller picture it’s good to know that these Soldiers are 100 percent taken care of and have what they need.”
