    U.S. Naval Community College

QUANTICO, Va. — The inaugural student cohort enrolled in the Associate of Arts in General Studies with Computer Studies Specialization degree program through the United States Naval Community College completed their first course through University of Maryland Global Campus October 11, 2022.

This is one of several USNCC associate degree programs which support the Naval University System’s efforts to develop enlisted leaders with the warfighting rigor, intellectual dynamism, and innovative creativity in the cyber domain.

“Cybersecurity is a critical warfighting capability in the 21st century,” said USNCC’s President Randi R. Cosentino, Ed.D. “We have put together a top-quality program for our Sailors, Marines, and Coast Guardsmen who defend our nation against cyber threats, and we’re excited to be a part of the shared responsibility of pivoting the cyber community to a Cyber Ready philosophy of readiness and currency.”

Students enrolled in an associate degree program with the USNCC will complete a mix of classes from both the USNCC and its associated consortium partner institution. Each USNCC associate degree program includes an embedded core Naval Studies Certificate, an intellectual skills component, and a professional focus certificate. This milestone model of education ensures Sailors, Marines, and Coast Guardsmen earn certificates along the way without having to take additional courses. Students who complete these certificates demonstrate an increased level of industry knowledge in the professional concentration area.

“Congratulations to all the USNCC students who are finishing their first classes under the pilot partnership with UMGC,” said retired Army Maj. Gen. Lloyd “Milo” Miles, UMGC’s senior vice president for Global Military Operations. “We are proud of their accomplishments and look forward to supporting their continued progress toward an associate degree in computer studies from UMGC.”

These students are eligible to continue on to the next course in their degree program plan. These degree program plans are tailored to each student based on credits they transfer in from their military training and prior education. The USNCC works with its partner institutions to maximize transfer credits from the Joint Service Transcript while maintaining a high-quality education in the professional concentration area.

All active duty enlisted Sailors, Marines, and Coast Guardsmen are eligible to apply for any degree program with the USNCC. Those interested in earning a degree in cybersecurity, or any other degree program offered by the USNCC, can fill out an application at www.usncc.edu.
