WIESBADEN, Germany — Two 2d Theater Signal Brigade members were selected by leadership to attend the annual Association of the United States Army meeting in Oct. 10 to 12, 2022 in Washington D.C.

Sergeant First Class Jeremy Thompson, 102d Strategic Signal Battalion S4 NCOIC, and PFC Lacey Kitchen, 2d TSB Intelligence Analyst, were selected to attend the annual event based on their outstanding contributions and dedication to the 2d TSB mission and the U.S. Army.

AUSA 2022’s theme was “Building the Army of 2030.” The purpose of this year’s event was to inform key audiences that the Army takes care of its people by building a culture of trust and remains competitive on all domain battlefields by transforming how the Army fights and wins.

“The Army of 2030 will be able to converge forces that have been dispersed and engaged in deception to avoid being seen so that they can concentrate combat power and strike hard at decisive points in the battle,” said the Honorable Christine Wormuth, Secretary of the Army.

Thompson was one of 120 specifically selected leaders to provide thoughtful, bottom-up feedback to Gen. James C. McConville, Chief of Staff of the Army, and Sergeant Major of the Army Michael A. Grinston on opportunities and challenges facing the Total Army during the New Leader Solarium.

Thompson stated he was happy and excited to attend AUSA because it is an opportunity to provide feedback on the way ahead for the Army.

‘Speaking with the CSA and SMA about how we can make the Army better, and being able to voice my opinion on what direction I think the Army should head in was an exciting aspect of this event.”

For PFC Kitchen, being hand-selected by Gen. Darryl A. Williams, Commander, United States Army Europe and Africa, to attend the event is one of her proudest Army achievements.

“After meeting General Williams and Dr. Amy Gutmann, the U.S. Ambassador to Germany at a luncheon, I realized how much more the amazing leaders of our military service had to offer in terms of wisdom and general knowledge about all things Army,” Kitchen said. “Being chosen to attend this event means having access to some of the most highly-respected men and women in America. In addition, I am very thankful to get to represent 2d TSB at this event, and to General Williams for thinking of me to join him during the event.”

Kitchen added that attending AUSA provided her with an opportunity to better understand what the leaders of today are hoping to build for tomorrow.

“It is also an amazing professional development opportunity,” she said. “I expected to learn a lot about senior level development and build professional contacts, while observing how a high-level conference is run.”

Like Thompson, Kitchen attended various events, including the Women’s Expeditionary Forum, European Landpower Discussion Panel, and SMA Initiative brief.

“The event gave some good exposure and helped create connections that will most likely aid in future endeavors,” Kitchen said. “This experience was very enlightening and overall good insight into business conferences at a high level of operation.”

The Association of the United States Army is a nonprofit educational and professional development association serving America’s Army and supporters of a strong national defense. AUSA provides a voice for the Army, supports the Soldier, and honors those who have served in order to advance the security of the nation.

The 2d Theater Signal Brigade conducts Department of Defense Information Network operations to enable mission command in support of U.S. Army, Joint and multinational operations throughout the U.S. European Command and U.S. Africa Command areas of operation.
