    25th Infantry Division

Brig. Gen. Jeffrey VanAntwerp, Deputy Commanding General – Operations, and Division Command Sgt. Maj. Robert Haynie recognized 25th Infantry Division’s brigade and battalion retention teams for exceeding their retention goals in fiscal year 22 during the Commanding General’s Retention Awards Ceremony on October 21, 2022 on Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.

“When Soldiers go above and beyond the Army standard, it is important to recognize those individuals. Retention efforts are no different and the Commanding General personally recognizes the efforts put into the retention mission. Retention is a team effort from Command Teams, Leaders and Career Counselors and those commands that stood out above the rest are recognized at the Commanding General’s Annual Retention Awards.” Said Sgt. Maj. Juan Mark Munoz, the Division Command Career Counselor.
Munoz believes taking care of our soldiers should always be our number one priority and counseling them on their career should be done on a regular basis. He says showing soldiers you are invested in their careers will lead to great retention rates in any organization.

“We have maintained the set standard of completing our retention mission three months before the end of the FY. As we did last FY, we had the highest completion percentages compared to all Divisions in the Army,” said Munoz.
Not only did 25th Infantry Division’s retention teams achieve their retention goals, they exceeded them. Their mission categories were achieved at the following percentages: Expiration Term of Service was achieved at 106%, initial term was achieved at 112%, mid-career was achieved at 119%, careerist was achieved at 120%, FY23 aggregate was achieved at 116%, and Reserve Component Transition was achieved at 149%.

The first brigade to complete their retention mission was 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team on July 28, 2022, followed by the 25th Division Support Brigade who completed their retention mission on July 6, 2022. The battalion coming in at 1st place to complete their retention mission was the 65th Brigade Engineer Battalion who completed their retention mission on May 16, 2022, followed by the 2nd Battalion, 2nd Aviation Regiment whose mission was completed on May 17, 2022. Both brigades and battalions were awarded the Early Bird Award. Also awarded during the ceremony was the Top Producer Award. This award recognizes the brigades and battalions who completed the highest percentage of reenlistments during FY22. The brigade coming in at first place was the 2nd IBCT, followed by the 25th DSB. The battalion top producer was the 65th BEB followed by the 225th Brigade Support Battalion.

The Tropic Lightning Spear was awarded to the Most Valuable Players at brigade level and battalion levels. This award signifies being the tip of the spear amongst all senior Career Counselors. Awarded was Master Sgt. Travis France, 2nd IBCT, and Staff Sgt. Vernesa Galimah, 225th BSB, 2IBCT.

“It’s a huge accomplishment and couldn’t have been possible without the command teams, Command Sgt. Maj. Homs, Lt. Col. Wandembergh and the company command teams,” said MVP award recipient Staff Sgt. Galimah.
The 25th Infantry Division Career Counselors and Leaders remain focused on striving to retain talented Soldiers and developing leaders for the future of the force. The Commanding General’s Retention Awards Ceremony serves as a way to recognize the soldiers who turn that focus into a reality.
