MACTAN-BENITO EBUEN AIR BASE, Philippines - Combat Aircrew-2 of the “Red Lancers” Patrol Squadron (VP) 10 hosted a P-8A Poseidon static display for Vice Adm. Karl Thomas, commander, U.S. 7th Fleet, at Mactan-Benito Ebuen Air Base, Philippines, Oct. 10.
During the visit, Thomas delivered opening remarks at exercise Sama Sama-Lumbas. He also met with Maj. Gen. Joannis Leonardi B. Dimaano, commander, Air Mobility Command of the Philippine Air Force, to discuss the roles and capabilities of the P-8A Multi-Mission Maritime Aircraft.
Squadron personnel repositioned the Poseidon aircraft to demonstrate the systems and functionalities to the Philippine Air Force staff in attendance. This display enhanced interoperability in the maritime community. Combat Aircrew-2 emphasized the extended range capabilities and lethality of the P-8A and how maritime patrol and reconnaissance aircraft address maritime security concerns through intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance information sharing.
During the exercise [Sama Sama-Lumbas], VP-10 personnel worked together with the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, Philippine Navy, Royal Australian Navy, Royal Navy, and the French Navy to display a full spectrum of naval capabilities to ensure a free and open Indo-Pacific maritime security environment.
The “Red Lancers” are based in Jacksonville, Florida and are currently operating from Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, Japan. The squadron conducts maritime patrol and reconnaissance, as well as theater outreach operations, as part of a rotational deployment to the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations.
