Meet Melissa Hutcheson, a human resources supervisory assistant and administration supervisor at the Navy ‘s only boot camp. Melissa works in Recruit Training Command ‘s Administration Department and is the go-to for all of RTC’s administration needs.
She has been a critical team member, training 4 other admin civilians and 5 yeomen, tracking, processing, and submitting all correspondence for the entire command, which includes more than 1,300 members.
She also completely re-vamped how to review command instructions and policies, and was responsible for helping to get over 50 instructions revised, consolidated, updated, or cancelled.
“I'm one of those people that thrives on change, said Hutcheson, “and I guess that if there's no change, then I get really bored and things get stagnant. That’s the part I think that makes RTC a great place to be, because there's always those changes always that growth, that need to want to better yourself and do better for the people around you.”
“Melissa was absolutely our go to person,” said Chief Yeoman Mike Bresnahan, RTC’s administration department leading chief petty officer. “She’s dependable, reliable, and incredibly knowledgeable with the command and admin processes. She was also a very knowledgeable civilian supervisor who assisted civilians around the command to resolve issues, and work toward professional development.”
Melissa is not all work, though. She plays the clarinet, has been a military spouse for 10 years, and a mother to one son who loves to play hockey.
An avid traveler prior to marriage, she is no stranger to starting over at a new job in a new location, which is what’s next on the books as Wednesday was her last day at RTC. Her and her family are moving on to their next duty station in Tennessee.
“It was a great experience, said Hutcheson, “I learned so much stuff especially from the chiefs that I spoke with. I’m going to take a lot of their knowledge with me to my new command.”
We wish the Hutcheson family all the best! Fair Winds and Following Seas!
