ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, Md. – The senior enlisted leader from the U.S. Army’s largest operational command visited the U.S. military’s premier all hazards command on Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, Nov. 8 - 9.
Command Sgt. Maj. Todd W. Sims, the senior enlisted leader from U.S. Army Forces Command, met with Soldiers and U.S. Army civilians at the headquarters for the 20th Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, Explosives (CBRNE) Command.
As the 23rd FORSCOM command sergeant major, Sims advises Gen. Andrew J. Poppas, the FORSCOM commanding general, on all matters regarding U.S. Army Forces Command Soldiers, including more than 745,000 Active Duty, Army Reserve and Army National Guard Soldiers.
Headquartered on Fort Bragg, North Carolina, FORSCOM trains and prepares combat ready, globally responsive forces to build and sustain readiness to meet Combatant Command requirements. FORSCOM is the U.S. Army’s largest command and includes many of the Army’s most storied combat units.
Part of the U.S. Army Forces Command, Soldiers and Army civilians from 20th CBRNE Command deploy from 19 bases in 16 states to take on the world’s most dangerous hazards in support of joint, interagency and allied operations.
The 20th CBRNE Command is home to 75 percent of the active-duty Army’s Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear (CBRN) specialists and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) technicians, as well as the 1st Area Medical Laboratory, CBRNE Analytical and Remediation Activity, five Weapons of Mass Destruction Coordination Teams and three Nuclear Disablement Teams.
The 20th CBRNE Command recently marked its 18th anniversary since it was established in October 2004 to consolidate the U.S. Army’s CBRNE units into a deployable command to support joint, interagency and allied operations around the world and domestic authorities across the nation.
During his visit, Sims met with staff sections and visited the headquarters for the 1st Area Medical Laboratory and CBRNE Analytical and Remediation Activity. The FORSCOM command sergeant major also discussed 20th CBRNE Command’s efforts to support U.S. Army recruiting across the Baltimore Recruiting Battalion footprint.
Command Sgt. Maj. Jorge Arzabala, the senior enlisted leader for 20th CBRNE Command, said it was an honor to host Sims at the headquarters.
“It was a great opportunity to introduce him to our team of extraordinary professionals who enable 20th CBRNE Command to confront and defeat the world’s most dangerous hazards,” said Arzabala, a career U.S. Army Chemical Corps Soldier from El Paso, Texas.
