CAMP ARFIJAN, Kuwait - Two important events highlighted Christmas Day this year at Camp Arifjan. A Christmas meal and a musical were made possible by Third Army to make service members' spirits bright.
This year's meal served thousands of service members at Camp Arifjan's three dining facilities. Troops were served a choice of turkey or roast beef as a main course, and offered a number of side selections including mashed potatoes and stuffing, along with plenty of desserts.
Leaders from the various units, including Brig. Gen. Phillip McGhee, director of resource management, Third Army and Brig. Gen. Mark McCarley, deputy commanding ceneral, 1st Theater Sustainment Command, were on hand to serve the service members their Christmas meals. In addition to competing for business, the dining facilities competed in a decorating contest with decorations made out of food.
The Christmas musical, "It's Time to Shine" was directed by Staff Sgt. Stephen Cleveland, the 1864th Transportation Co.'s equal opportunity non-commissioned officer in charge, and one of the leaders of the performance arts scene at Camp Arifjan.
"It was a great day! We all miss our families back home, so we all agreed the greatest gift is the gift of giving," said Cleveland. "We wanted to give the service members here at Camp Arifjan a show that they have never seen before, to showcase some of the awesome talent within the Military today.
More than 30 service members from Kuwait performed in this year's musical and hundreds of troops attended both a day and evening performance.
Third Army has supported events like this on Christmas day to benefit the morale of the troops away from their families on Christmas.
