Chief Warrant Officer 5 Demetrio "Jay" Castro III, Aviation branch safety officer at the U.S. Army Aviation Center of Excellence, was promoted from the rank of CW4 to the rank of CW5 during a ceremony at Fort Rucker, Alabama, November 18, 2022.
“Statistics would tell you Jay Castro should not be in front of you as Chief Warrant Officer 5 Jay Castro, branch safety officer, Black Hawk pilot, world traveler, husband, father. But I refused to allow my circumstances to dictate my future," said Chief Warrant Officer 5 Demetrio "Jay" Castro III, Aviation branch safety officer at the U.S. Army Aviation Center of Excellence.
"Never in a million lifetimes would l have been able to dream the blessed life that we’ve been able to live so far,” Castro said, after 29 years of service.
When he started his Army journey, his reason for waking up at 4:30 a.m. to do physical training, go to academics all day, and then do leadership training during the night, was simple:
“I wanted to be my children’s hero. I wanted to be somebody they can look up to, somebody they can say, ‘That’s my dad.’
"My hope is that I have been successful at that,” he said.
For the past 29 years, Castro has been proud to wear the uniform.
During the ceremony, he thanked leaders who taught him what it means to be a humble servant leader, and his family for their support.
