SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The 178th Wing welcomed a new Wing Command Chief Master Sergeant during a change of authority ceremony.

Chief Master Sgt. Jacquita F. Melton assumed the role of Command Chief Master Sergeant of the Ohio Air National Guard’s 178th Wing from Chief Master Sgt. Scott E. Ross, Dec. 3, at Springfield-Beckley Air National Guard Base in Springfield, Ohio.

Melton previously served as the Senior Enlisted Leader for the 178th Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance Group. Her career spans 23 years of service and includes assignments as the SEL for the 126th ISR Squadron and the 178th Operations Support Squadron.

“The Wing Command Chief position is not achieved through luck or privilege, it can only be reached through many years of hard work and dedication,” said Col. Domonic S. Fago, Commander of the 178th Wing. “Chief Melton has an established track record of success and mentoring airmen. These are key attributes which will enable her to be a successful Wing Command Chief.”

During the COA Ross reflected on his past three years as Command Chief.

“I have personally witnessed true leadership and dedication to our community and to our nation over the last three years,” said Ross. “And for this I’m forever thankful for the opportunity to serve as your Command Chief.”

“I’m also extremely thankful that Chief Melton will be your next Wing Command Chief,” Ross added. “She is a strong, solid professional, non-nonsense Chief who cares deeply for our Airmen and this Wing.”

Ross will officially retire Feb. 2, 2023. He plans to return to his Human Resource position with a civilian company.

As Melton takes on her new leadership role, she addressed the Wing saying, “I understand all too well the importance of the enlisted force, a force like no other, and the significance of my position and what it truly entails; ensuring the enlisted force is taken care of. For that, I am truly honored to be standing to be standing in front of you today.”
