CAMP KOŚCIUSZKO, Poland– Service members looking to advance their military career can now receive guidance and assistance at USAG-Poland's new testing center at Camp Kościuszko, Poland.
Mr. Thomas B. Kimbrough, Testing Control Officer, assisted in the planning and development of the testing center in accordance with the Army Personnel Testing program.
“The testing center provides military personnel with various military tests,” said Kimbrough. “Some of the exams we offer include the Defense Language Aptitude Battery, Defense Language Proficiency Test, Armed Forces Classification Test, English language comprehension exam, Oral Proficiency Interview, and Selection Instrument for Flight Training.”
These exams aid service members in achieving career goals.
“Acquiring a testing certification accounts for promotion points,” said Kimbrough. "Soldiers who speak foreign languages are able to use those skills to accomplish the Army’s mission.”
U.S. Army Sgt. Shelby Lillie, an intelligence analyst assigned to V Corps, took the DLAB at the testing center to measure her ability to learn a foreign language. She received the contact information for the testing center from her leadership and set up a date to take the test.
“The process was quick and easy,” said Lillie. “I just scheduled an appointment and took the test.”
The APT program offers resources to improve AFCT scores.
“Some enlisted soldiers may decide to commission or go warrant, but they need a few more points on their ASVAB scores,” said Kimbrough. “We're able to prepare them to take the AFCT to improve their scores.”
Mrs. Sheila A. Barthel, USAG-Bavaria Education Services Officer, supports the administration of the Army Personnel Testing program at Camp Kościuszko.
“It is very exciting that the Army Personnel Testing program is now available for the soldiers that are stationed in Poland,” said Barthel. “They will no longer travel to Germany.”
The program provides support to service members stationed in various European countries including Belgium, Germany, and Italy.
“We have education centers throughout Europe,” said Barthel. "The Army Personnel Testing program is very important for our soldiers and civilians.”
The program is not limited to service members.
“Both service members and civilians should be able to progress in their careers regardless of where they're located,” said Kimbrough. “If there's an American citizen here in Poland that wants to join our forces, we will be able to offer them that ASVAB test after they speak with a recruiter.”
The testing center is just the beginning of success.
“This urban personnel Testing Center is just one part of the education piece,” said Kimbrough. "We are looking to expand the education program in the future, as we transition over to Garrison.”
USAG-Poland's primary focus is soldier development here at Camp Kościuszko, Poland.
“Soldiers deserve the opportunity to develop their careers,” said Kimbrough. "If taking an exam can get soldiers to where they want to be, then that means that we have done our job.”
All services provided at the testing center are free. For additional information, email usarmy.poznan.id-europe.mbx.aces@army.mil.
