JOINT BASE MCGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST, N.J. – The U.S. Army 174th Infantry Brigade held a change of command ceremony 13 July, 2022, at Army Support Activity Fort Dix.

U.S. Army Col. James Krueger assumed command of the 174th Infantry Brigade from the U.S. Army Col. Mathew Bunch, 174th Infantry Brigade commander.

“It’s been my honor to serve these dedicated professionals over the last two years at the 174th,” said Bunch. “Not only did you punch above your weight, but you did everything I ever asked. Although I'm saying farewell for now, know that if you ever need anything that I’m only a phone call or an email away.”

Under Bunch’s leadership, the 174th was able to maintain operations to sustain combat-ready, mission-deployable soldiers during the COVID-19 pandemic and Operations Allies Welcome/Refuge.

“To the men and women of the 174th, it’s my honor to be able to serve you,” said Kreuger. “To Mat and his family, this brigade is without a doubt a better place due to your tireless efforts. I want to personally thank you for all your hard work.”

Krueger now commands 642 ready and resilient U.S. Army National Guard and Reserve units that contribute to the Army’s mission of being able to fight and win anytime, and anywhere.

“James, I can’t wait to see how you continue to build and improve this great organization,” said Maj. Gen. Mark Landes, First Army East Division commander. “I am confident that you possess more than enough of the necessary leadership skills and experience required to excel as Commander and I look forward to working with you.”
