If anyone has attended a Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime event lately either virtually or in person, they have heard the vocal stylings of resolution specialist Lisa Griffin singing the National Anthem. Griffin has been a staple at these events for years and has sung for groups large and small.

Griffin was invited to sing the National Anthem at the Ohio Women Veterans Conference, held in the Ohio Union on the campus of The Ohio State University Aug. 6.

The conference is normally held biennially but had been on hiatus since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s one of the largest of its kind in the country and drew more than 400 registrants from all over the state.

Griffin said the Land and Maritime Supplier Conference and Exhibition held in April at the Greater Columbus Convention Center was the largest group she has probably sung for, with the Ohio Women Veterans Conference being her second largest.

Griffin, who is not a veteran herself, has many relatives who are. Her sister served in the Air Force for more than 20 years, an uncle retired from the Navy and Griffin’s nephew just joined the Navy last year.

Griffin said she sings at events year-round because she wants to honor veterans and those currently serving in the military.

“That’s the least I can do is to lend my voice to thank them for everything that they’ve done, all that they put on the line for us to live free,” she added.

Griffin said she started singing at age four in her father’s church where he was the pastor.

“My parents recognized I had a gift for singing and so I sang in the church, and I’ve been doing it ever since, about 50 years now.”

Outside of Land and Maritime and singing regularly at her church, Griffin says she’s been asked to sing a variety of other songs at other special occasions including weddings and anniversaries.

Griffin has worked at DLA Land and Maritime for 33 years, starting out as a student hire clerk typist and rising up through the ranks to where she is today.

Griffin will next be singing the National Anthem at the Women’s Equality Day event on Aug. 17 at the Defense Supply Center Columbus.
