BAGHDAD — The headquarters of 1st Armored Division will take control of all U.S. forces operating in central Iraq from 1st Cavalry Division during a formal ceremony held at U.S. Division-Center headquarters Jan. 13.
Soldiers from 1st Cavalry have traveled back to their home station of Fort Hood, Texas, as 1st Armored Division Soldiers have traveled from their home at Wiesbaden, Germany, and settled into operations on the outskirts of Baghdad.
First Armored Division, informally known as Old Ironsides, was one of the first of four U.S. Army divisions to enter Iraq in February 2003 and is expected to be one of the first to officially leave security of the sovereign nation in the capable hands of Iraqi security forces later this year.
All media representatives interested in covering this historic event should arrive at the U.S. Division-Center Media Operations Center adjacent to the headquarters no later than noon the day of the ceremony. After the conclusion of the ceremony, Maj. Gen. Terry Wolff will be available for interviews in front of the media platform. All media representatives are then invited back to the Media Operations Center for answers to any additional questions.
