Navy Reserve Center Minneapolis, Minn. – Capt. Ketan Chhipwadia relieved Capt. Gregory Granieri as the commanding officer for Navy Reserves Commander, Naval Forces Japan (CNFJ) during a change of command ceremony here.
This change of command marks the retirement of Granieri from Naval service whose career began in July 1987.
“As I prepare to turnover command and now look squarely at the final days of a 30plus year Navy career, I am humbled and grateful to be spending these days with you all,” Granieri said to his crew. “This ceremony is not about me, but rather about us and the good and important work we have done together on behalf of our Navy and our nation and the families and friends that have supported us in doing so.”
Rear Adm. Carl Lahti, Commander, Naval Forces Japan and Navy Region Japan, presided over the official ceremony.
“This is a quality organization. It takes a lot to get our Reserve force out to Japan and this command works really hard to make that happen,” said Lahti. “Captain Chhipwadia, welcome to the command. I look forward to you working with a well-seasoned team.”
Chhipwadia comes to CNFJ following six previous shore commands and 3 combat zone deployments. He was most recently the Commanding Officer of NR Navy Personnel Command (NPC) Navy Casualty, where in addition to Commanding Officer, he was dual-hatted as the Navy’s Personnel Recovery (PR) Phase III Reintegration Team Chief (RTC).
