FORT RILEY, Kan. - U.S. Army Command Sgt. Maj. Tisa W. Scott, the Command Sergeant Major of the Quartermaster School out of Fort Lee, Virginia, visited 1st Infantry Division, Feb. 15, 2023.
Scott visited the brigade to spend the day with the support units, recognize several Soldiers, commerce with unit leadership, and view daily operations.
“Sustaining the force is a vital part of the Army,” Scott said. “Support jobs, like culinary specialists, help keep the mainstream jobs possible.”
Several Soldiers received recognition by Scott after being spoken highly about by their leadership.
Cpl. Kiara N. Spears, an army automated logistical specialist assigned to 541st Division Sustainment Support Battalion, 1st Inf. Div. Sustainment Brigade, received recognition by Scott for performing her duties and operating at a high level.
“I felt proud to be noticed for my hard work and dedication to the unit and my SSA (Supply Support Activity),” Spears said. “It’s good to know that I am being watched and that my hard work and diligence isn’t going unnoticed.”
Scott spent the day overviewing several sections of the brigade, ranging from Army Field Support Battalion to the Fuel Sample station. She had Spc. Kelly A. Vanegas and Abraham A. Sowa, petroleum laboratory specialists assigned to 541st DSSB, 1st Inf. Div. Sust. BDE, walked her through reading and evaluating jet fuel quality processes.
Scott ended her walkthrough of Fort Riley with the 601st Aviation Support Battalion, 1st Combat Aviation Brigade, 1st Inf. Div., Supply Support Activity. She spoke about the importance of an army automated logistical specialist within the unit and how they keep the brigades operating.
Scott concluded the walkthrough with recognizing Sgt. Raekwon Dekle and Spc. Yazmarily Pabon, army automated logistical specialists assigned to 601st ASB, 1st CAB, 1st Inf. Div.
“It feels amazing that, even as a specialist, the bigger Army recognizes the hard work that goes into keeping the units running,” Pabon said. “It makes you feel like what you do matters to more than just your immediate leadership.”
Scott concluded the day with an overview meeting with 1st Sust. BDE leadership at Victory Hall
“It brings joy to me that we have such a great young core to the Army Quartermaster Corps,” Scott said. “This young core will be what helps carry the Army for years to come.”
