BEMOWO PISKIE, Poland – Soldiers assigned to NATO enhanced Forward Presence (eFP) Battle Group Poland conducted a dynamic display live fire exercise for the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Croatia, Mario Banožić and Poland Deputy Prime Minister, Mariusz Błaszczak, Minister of National Defense, Feb. 27, 2023.
Currently led by the 1st Battalion, 9th Cavalry Regiment (1-9 CAV), 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team (2-1 ABCT), 1st Cavalry Division (1 CD), supporting 4th Infantry Division, alongside The Royal Lancers, Prince of Wales Troop, Romanian Sky Guardians and Croatian Panzer Battery, the eFP Battle Group Poland operates collectively with the Polish 15th Mechanized Brigade.
“This live fire exercise is an opportunity to display the Battle Group’s lethality and readiness,” said U.S. Army Lt. Col. James Ray, commander of eFP Battle Group Poland and commander of the 1-9 CAV, 2 ABCT, 1 CD.
Banožić and Błaszczak were in attendance to observe the agility and fire power of the eFP Battle Group Poland.
“It's very important that we are showing our solidarity, our unity within NATO,” said Błaszczak. “We are grateful that Croatian soldiers are stationed on Polish soil, that they train together with Polish, American, British and Romanian soldiers on a daily basis, building the interoperability of NATO forces.”
Joint exercises are instrumental in developing military skills, cohesion and synchronization within NATO, ensuring the Battle Group is ready to engage challenges that emerge at any time.
“It's showing that the NATO alliance is stronger than ever,” said Banožić.
Each nation provides a crucial and unique element to the capabilities of the Battle Group and work together to create stability of the European theater through interoperability between the allied nations.
“This demonstration allowed us to improve our ability to communicate with each other through multiple methods,” said Ray. “It was a great opportunity to test our systems, review our processes and develop improvements to increase shared understanding between the differing nations of the Battle Group and their collective units.”
Collective comprehensive training and modernization of a nation's military equipment and vehicles strengthens the ability to maintain combat readiness and versatility.
“This was the first exercise where we had the opportunity to interact with all Battle Group elements,” said Croatian army Maj. Ivan Kamber, commander of the 11th Croatian contingent, Panzer Battery. “For us, it is a great opportunity to broaden our fields of expertise in the multinational environment.”
The live fire demonstration displayed the ability of the eFP Battle Group Poland to operate as a singular cohesive fighting force that is prepared to quickly react, adapt and overcome adversaries.
“Most importantly, we are strengthening our ability to combine arms by synchronizing maneuver and fires capabilities,” said Ray. “We are demonstrating and improving our interoperability and are ready to quickly react to defend against any aggression against any of our NATO allies.”
Each military offers a variety of assets and combat capabilities which strengthens and improves the combined capabilities of unified member nations of the NATO Battle Group Poland alliance.
"It is always a pleasure to work with our allies from across the battle group, and seeing all of our fire power employed together reinforces my conviction that eFP Battle Group Poland is a credible force, and stronger together,” said U.K. Capt. Martin Thompson, 2nd in command of The Royal Lancers, Prince of Wales Troop. “The Polish armored forces are a seriously impressive group that we are keen to work with again in the future.”
The eFP Battle Group Poland is positioned to be the tip of the spear, to deter against aggression but is ready to engage and defend should an adversary threaten the allied nation’s sovereignty.
“This demonstration today truly shows we are stronger together,” said Ray.
