The 49th Civil Engineer Squadron was recognized by Air Education and Training Command, taking home one unit-level and three individual 2022 civil engineer unit awards.

The skill and commitment of the 49th CES Airmen to maintain Holloman’s facilities and infrastructure earned the whole squadron the 2022 AETC Active Duty Large Unit Outstanding CE Unit Award.

“Our unit provides an incredible amount of support to team Holloman with the Air Force’s largest F-16 and MQ-9 training program,” said U.S. Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Ryan Zacher, 49th CES senior enlisted leader. “We have leaned forward in developing Airmen and processes to adapt to deployment readiness support.”

The 49th CES is comprised of six flights: engineering, installation management, operations, emergency management, fire protection, and explosive ordnance disposal, all which serve the mission of building combat aircrew.

Not only did the unit exceed standards of performance as a whole, but individuals within the unit were also recognized for their hard work and achievements throughout the year.

The individual award-winners from the 49th CES are:
U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Jalen Cooper, 49th CES pavement and equipment journeyman, Maj. Gen Eugene A. Lupia Award.
U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. Shaun Ouellette, 49th CES emergency management flight chief, Civil Engineer Military Manager of the Year.
Kirk Campbell, 49th CES heavy equipment operator, Civil Engineer Civilian Technician Manager of the Year.

The 49th CES is an integral part of the team here at Holloman and it is their commitment to producing high quality work that keeps operations running. The AETC awards recognized the importance of both junior Airmen and leadership within the squadron for upholding the quality and standards of the 49th Wing.

“Winning these awards is a reflection of the efforts of the entire civil engineer squadron,” said U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Kelly Mattie, 49th CES commander. “I am proud to lead this incredible team that dedicates themselves to keeping Holloman functioning everyday.”
