CAMP KOSCIUSZKO, Poland - The Garrison Safety Office coordinates with Regionally Allocated Forces, V Corps and U.S. Army Europe and Africa Safety Offices and G-4 Sections to organize Roadside Safety Checkpoints. The Roadside Safety Checkpoint Program was established in February 2023 to provide roadside safety checkpoint inspections of tactical and non-tactical vehicles operating in Poland.

“Due to the dynamic mission environment and dispersion of Forward Operating Sites, Soldiers are exposed to driving challenges not found anywhere else,” said Mr. Michael Forand, Garrison Safety Director. “The purpose of the Roadside Safety Checkpoint Program is to assist deployed mission partners in meeting driver and tactical and non-tactical vehicle safety requirements.”

U.S. Army Garrison Poland supports USAREUR-AF and V Corps efforts to reduce vehicle mishaps within the Poland area of operations.

“Units deployed to Poland are subject not only to Army but also USAREUR-AF and V Corps standards,” said Forand. “The overall goal of the RSCP is to provide NCO led safety inspections in a joint environment with garrison and the Regionally Allocated Force Safety Office support to reduce Army Motor Vehicle mishaps through standards awareness, reinforcement and trend analysis.”

Safety is the number one priority of the RSCP.

“As our Active Duty, Guard and Reserve mission partners deploy from a variety of locations with differing policies into Poland, assisting them with meeting standards benefits the units, leaders and drivers in executing their driving missions safely,” said Forand. “By providing a joint inspection environment, the garrison is able to assist units in meeting required standards while providing lead continuity in AMV mishap mitigation efforts for the Poland AOR.”

USAG-Poland implements roadside safety inspections to improve Soldier and equipment readiness.

“Roadside Safety Inspections are administrative in nature with the focus areas on operator licensing, forms & records, proper dispatching, risk assessments and required safety equipment,” said Forand. “Checkpoints will be conducted jointly throughout the garrison on a random and by-request basis.”
