The Commanding General of United States Army Pacific, General Charles Flynn, visited Carlisle Barracks yesterday to speak to Army War College students about the strategic environment of the Indo-Pacific and the pacing challenge of the People's Republic of China.
During his visit, Gen. Flynn discussed the strategic environment of the Indo-Pacific and the challenges posed by China's rise. He emphasized the need for the United States to maintain a strong military presence in the region, to deter potential aggressors and protect U.S. interests and those of its allies. He also highlighted the importance of building and strengthening partnerships with countries in the region, particularly those who share U.S. values and interests.

China is increasing its military and economic power posing a significant challenge to the United States and its allies in the Indo-Pacific region. China's Belt and Road Initiative, which seeks to build infrastructure and promote economic development across Asia, Africa, and Europe, has raised concerns about China's economic influence.
Flynn's visit highlights the growing importance of the Indo-Pacific region for the United States and the challenges posed by China's increasing military and economic power. The United States and its allies in the region are responding to this challenge through increased military presence, partnership-building, and capability development.
General Charles A. Flynn assumed command of the United States Army's largest Service Component Command, U.S. Army Pacific, on June 4, 2021. Prior to this assignment Flynn served as deputy chief of staff for Army operations, plans, and training at the Pentagon. The U.S. Army Pacific is headquartered at Fort Shafter, Hawaii.
