Soldiers of Alpha Company, 87th Division Sustainment Support Battalion, 3rd Division Sustainment Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division, bid farewell to Family and friends as they left for a nine-month deployment to the Middle East. On March 24, 2023, the logistics unit’s more than 160 Soldiers boarded a flight at Truscott Terminal at Hunter Army Airfield, Georgia.
The Soldiers’ mission is to provide sustainment support to units within the U.S. Army Central and U.S. Central Command area of operations, as part of a multinational force committed to deter malign influence, violent extremist organizations and state adversaries across the theater.
“Alpha Company provides logistical support by providing warehouse operations, petroleum storage and water purification to our unit and other supporting units,” said Capt. Daniel Predmore, the company commander.
“We will be working alongside the Army Reserve and National Guard during this deployment. Total integration is what the Army is striving for.” said Predmore.
The 3rd DSB is composed of the most diverse set of technical specialties and capabilities across the entire 3rd Infantry Division. The “Provider” Soldiers make a difference every day, whether providing disaster relief at home or protecting American interests overseas.
“Our Soldiers are well trained and prepared to deploy,” said Predmore. “In March of 2021, they returned from their mission with United States Central Command and two years later we are going back to conduct the same mission. "
The brigade’s Soldiers regularly deploy to support commands all over the world, assisting allies in a wide range of environments are an essential part of their mission. Units continually work to perfect their abilities to help rapidly surge combat-ready forces at a moment’s notice in support of our allies around the world.
“This is my first deployment so I'm excited and open minded for what comes next,” said Spc. Donald Washington, a petroleum supply specialist with the company. “My family understands my mission and is prepared for what’s to come.”
Although this will be a nine-month long deployment, the Soldiers are trained and capable and have their Families support to motivate them.
“I'm proud of the sacrifice that my daughter is making for this country,” said Barbara Tucker, the mother of Cpl. Journey Tucker. “She’s always put others before her and we will be waiting for her when she comes home.”
