    1st Security Force Assistance Brigade

FORT BENNING, Ga. - Sgt. 1st Class Brittanie Williams is a unit supply specialist assigned to 1st Security Force Assistance Brigade.

During Women's History Month, celebrated in the month of March, Williams recently had the chance to reflect on her experiences in the U.S. Army, what motivates her, and what it means to be a leader.

"I have had the opportunity to travel globally for the last ten years inspiring, learning, and interacting with different cultures, and people of different backgrounds, and it has shaped me into a woman that is both patient and willing to be open-minded to challenge," said Williams.

On her experience being a woman in the military Williams said, "My mother is a retired Army [human resources specialist], and understanding that she could be a mom and, an individual, and a soldier inspired me to follow in her footsteps and allowed me to understand that I can persevere through challenges, face them head-on, while also demanding change and respect of my peers, but enjoying my time with everybody."

Being a noncommissioned officer, Williams understands some of the traits required to be a leader in the U.S. Army.

"I think having an understanding of oneself allows you to understand others, even it if’s something you haven’t experienced yet, and if you can take the first step to be open-minded to other people’s problems, and just background alone, it’ll help shape you to direct and guide people while encouraging and motivating them."
