PHILADELPHIA -- The 103rd Brigade Engineer Battalion, 56th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 28th Infantry Division held the 162nd Anniversary Dinner of the First Regiment Infantry at the Union League of Philadelphia on April 1, 2023.
The current day 103rd BEB traces its lineage to the First Regiment Infantry known as the “Dandy First” and the evening was made to salute the proud Pennsylvanians who have served with the regiment from 1720 to present day.
The First Regiment and the Union League House have deep historical ties to each other, Philadelphia and our nation. Preserving and displaying that history was a central element of the evening.
A military reenactment group with ties to the 103rd BEB presented the Historic Pageant of the Soldiers. Uniforms were displayed from every major conflict in which the unit served since its creation.
The guest speaker, Maj. Gen. Mark J. Schindler, the adjutant general, Pennsylvania National Guard also highlighted much of the unit’s history. In his remarks he stated, “Our uniforms, equipment, doctrine, tactics and training have all change over the year, but our Soldiers, they have not. All of you Soldiers are ordinary citizens – willing to lace up your boots and do extraordinary things.”
