Soldiers and families from the 10th Mountain Division Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion held a "Spring Fling" to celebrate the Easter holiday April 7, 2023, on Fort Drum, New York.
The event was hosted by the 10th Mountain Division HHBN Soldier and Family Readiness Group and offered scavenger hunts, an Easter egg hunt, and land navigation courses for the families to participate in, as well as prizes that children at the event could win. For the Easter egg hunt, the members of the SFRG were able to procure more than 2,000, resulting in screams of glee from the children.
The event was fully decorated to match the occasion as well, with pastels and eggs everywhere. Indoors, children and their parents could participate in arts and crafts and enjoy complimentary food and drink.
“These events are absolutely essential,” said Patsy Young, HHBN SFRG senior adviser. “When Soldiers and their families feel taken care of, that Soldier is more likely to reenlist, which is always important.”
The 10th Mountain Division HHBN is currently on a rotation to Eastern Europe as part of Operation European Assure, Deter, and Reinforce. During deployments, the SFRG provides assistance to Soldiers and their families to lighten the load through morale-boosting events that help to build bonds between members of their respective units.
“We’re just happy to be able to support the families of our deployed Soldiers,” Young said. “Events like these are crucial to be able to build that morale and help take that weight off their shoulders.”
