When the alert goes out, Soldiers with Task Force Spartan, 1st Theater Sustainment Command, and U.S. Army Central, answer the call. Receiving a no-notice call as part of a late March exercise, the Soldiers were put into motion in a rapid deployment scenario to muster troops and move an entire armored company more than 200 miles in a short time.
The emergency readiness deployment exercise scenario required skilled leaders and managers to calculate fuel, ammunition, food, parts, and more. The EDRE was a stress test for the gathered leaders to accomplish the mission of moving all the equipment and personnel more than 200 miles in a short period of time and be prepared to be mission ready.
After travelling more than 200 miles, the combined force arrived at their destination to continue to accomplish parts of their mission scenario. Task Force Rattler tank crews worked with Soldiers of 1st TSC to offload their M1 Abrams tanks from Heavy Equipment Transporter Systems (HETS) trucks efficiently and safely, and to perform maintenance checks and inspections before they rolled out.
The force qualified 19 tank crews through Table VI, demonstrating their ability to rapidly deploy and be prepared to be mission ready when they arrive.
After rapidly deploying more than 200 miles and qualifying 19 of 19 tank crews, the Soldiers received the call to return to base.
The total combined force of more than 50 vehicles and 230 Soldiers covered more than 400 miles during the emergency deployment readiness exercise. The ability to rapidly muster, load, and deploy, is a testament to the professionalism, preparation, and skills of the Soldiers of Task Force Spartan, 1st TSC, and U.S. Army Central.
The EDRE demonstrated that if the alert goes out - we are ready to go.
